My Future

I was thinking to myself yesterday about what I want to do with my life. I want to end up getting my bachelors in Culinary Nutrition, but I also want to take a break from school and work. So here is my plan. Please comment about what you all think about it.

I am planning on staying out here until June 13 and then I will fly to JFK and see REM with my mom. Then I will go home and hang with my friend Jake in Ithaca and go to Camp Bisco. Then I will go to Pittsburg to see a friend. Then I plan on driving to Prov to see my friends then drive back out here and work for a couple more months.

I think right now that I need money and experience. I want to make sure that I am ready for the big world of cooking. I will go back to JWU in the Fall of 09 and graduate in 11.
Thank You

Well, now that I see your plan....if thats what you really want to do, you better buy your own car (get one n AZ, they will have less rust), get your own car and health insurance and possibly a place to live. Start adding up those bills and you will realize how much it costs per month to make it by. It is not easy, especially when you want to start your future and you have nothing to base it on (the situation I am in). You don't need experience to get a bachelors degree, just get it and be done with it-speaking from experience. Your internships count as experience when you graduate and go looking for a job. Working at that place in Perinton is not the experience you will need for the field you want to go into.

Life is full of opportunity and adventure; the good ole US of A was founded on this. It is up to you the individual to gather the skills needed for opportunities through adventures. In today's environment one must establish the skills often through higher education and when you stop the process in mid stream it is often very difficult if not impossible to get the process moving again. Comparing the cost of going solo mid stream is also a good exercise to help one realize the challenges that everyone faces daily.

Listen to your sister!

Everybody always needs money and experience - that never changes. There's got to be more to you wanting to take a year off than that. There's a good chance that you'll be able to make more money with a degree - and set yourself up for more rewarding experiences. On the other hand, if you have a real need to do some soul searching...I can understand that. But there are ways to do that while in college too - if you're smart, frugal, organized, motivated - you can be in school and have a part time job and travel on holidays/breaks. My last two years of college were full of studying, part-time jobs, skiing, traveling, hanging with Jessie. College is this beautiful oasis in time and space where you can be moving forward with your schooling and be experimenting with life.
